2012 Toyota Avensis

After three years, Toyota has missed the Avensis a facelift. We drove the more popular in Germany Combi and show how much better the middle-class model has become. The Passat does a liter less – with an average fuel consumption of 5.6 liters of manually switched Avensis 2.2 D-4D is not just about the most parsimonious in its class. The VW Passat Variant 2.0 TDI with 140 hp around indulges in a full liter less. All Avensis versions now have an electric parking brake, which automatically triggers in connection with the six-speed gearbox at the start. A new feature is the automatic activation of the brake when the driver turns the ignition. The chassis of the Avensis was “in favor of comfort and stability,” revised, as the manufacturer calls it. Thus, the rear shocks have been retuned. In practice it is not too much to remember. You travel convenient, as long as the roads are impeccable. But every bump, every manhole cover, and any transverse joint is clearly noticeable. The electric power steering is more direct than previously interpreted and offers enough feedback.

Always with climate and CD radio – Three trim levels are available for the Avensis to choose from. The basic version is equipped with seven airbags, 16-inch steel wheels, electric front windows, air conditioning and a CD radio. The 150-horsepower diesels can be had only from the medium variant, which belongs now to the name of life rather than Sol. Here also a center console with metallic finish, the infotainment system, a reversing camera, climate control, rear electric windows, cruise control and alloy wheels are standard here. In the highest specification executive, there are seats with Alcantara-/Lederbezug, a sound system with eleven speakers, heated front seats and a luggage compartment tracks for the cluster.

Wizard only package – available on request for the revised series for some assistance systems: a space cruise control, a Totwinkelwarner and an active lane keeping assistant. The radar-based anti-collision system automatically initiates emergency braking when an accident is imminent. All assistants are only together in the package and only ordered for the Avensis 2.2 D-4D automatic top version in the Executive. Fortunately, that Toyota has not increased prices in the wake of the facelift. Go? S unchanged at € 22 700 for the sedan, the wagon version will be 1,000 € more mature. The tested Avensis 2.2 D-4D suggests at least 29 300 euros. Thus the Japanese, although only 150 € cheaper than the comparable VW Passat Variant 2.0 TDI, but it offers a great deal more equipment.

Conclusion:
